Artist Bio
I began my art career as a youngster in my neighborhood in Chicago, where a local artist taught classes in her basement.
I took formal art classes there for a few years learning how to sketch and use charcoal and chalk. I eventually graduated to oil paint.
I painted off and on during my entire life. In the past decade I began to take my art more seriously. I discovered acrylic paint and liked it very much so that it is now all I use.
For me, art is all about creativity beyond what the eye or camera can see. My favorite artist is Salvador Dali whose surrealism has influenced my work.
While living abroad in the UK for eight years, I took advantage of visiting the great galleries of Europe. To this day I am inspired by absorbing the creativity of other artists.
Besides painting, my other creative endeavors include writing and acting which feed off each other.
I work mainly in acrylics but won’t hesitate to use modeling clay, Styrofoam, nails, glass and other bits to add to my projects. I tend to get a little wild with color.
I don’t want my work to blend in. I want it to stand out, shout out and elicit emotions in the viewer.
I’m impressed by what Albert Einstein said, “Creativity is intelligence having fun.”
And another favorite, “Earth without art is just “eh”.
